Von Scales, the husband of American singer and reality star Trina Braxton, has died at 58.

Von Scales died at around 2 a.m. on the 1st, local time, in Atlanta, Georgia, according to U.S. entertainment outlet TMZ and other international media reports.

A spokesperson for the Braxton family officially confirmed Scales’ death in a statement. “Trina Braxton’s beloved husband has passed away. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy as they process their grief and mourn, and we thank you for your kindness and prayers,” the statement said. No specific official cause of death has been announced, but people close to him said he had recently been battling a heart-related illness.

Scales won viewers’ affection through “Braxton Family Values,” the hit reality show chronicling the lives of pop star Toni Braxton and her sisters. He also won praise for his warmth toward the family, in addition to his abilities as a businessman.

The couple announced their engagement in early 2019 and married on Dec. 15 that year in St. Louis, Missouri, in a lavish ceremony attended by relatives and Trina’s sisters — Toni, Tamar, Traci and Towanda.

Trina previously said on the show that when her former husband, Gabe Solis, died of cancer in 2018, Scales stood quietly by her side and helped her heal, even though they were still in the early stages of their relationship.
