Hollywood heavyweights join cast for deep-sea fish’s extraordinary adventure

‘Allie,’ the first feature animated film from acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho, will hit South Korean theaters in July 2027. According to production company Barunson C&C, the film will open in France on July 14, following its South Korean release, and will reach U.S. theaters in stages.

‘Allie’ follows deep-sea fish that live in underwater canyons untouched by sunlight and wonder about the human world. The film chronicles the thrilling journey of Allie, an eccentric baby pig squid who dreams of seeing the sun firsthand and appearing on television, as she and her friends become caught up in an unexpected grand adventure.

The new film is a project director Bong Joon-ho has envisioned for years, after he swept the Academy Awards with ‘Parasite’ (2019) and ahead of the release of ‘Mickey 17’ (2025). Top-tier production talent from 12 countries, including South Korea, France and the United Kingdom, have joined the project, promising an overwhelming visual experience.

The film’s star-studded cast and collaborations have drawn particular attention. Jason Yu, director of ‘Sleep’ (2023), which won critical acclaim, has joined as a co-writer, adding depth to the story. Hollywood heavyweights including Bradley Cooper, Ayo Edebiri, Dave Bautista and Finn Wolfhard will lend their voices to the film. Werner Herzog, a living legend of German cinema, has also joined the voice cast, further enhancing the film’s stature.
