Bong Joon-ho’s first feature-length animated film ‘ALLY’ unveiled a dazzling English dubbing lineup packed with Hollywood top stars, showcasing the sheer scale of this global project.

■ From ‘Rocket’—Bradley Cooper—to ‘The Bear’—Ayo Edebiri… An all-time great cast

According to U.S. entertainment outlet Deadline and CJ ENM on the 12th, a host of major Hollywood actors will join the English voice acting for ‘ALLY’, including Bradley Cooper, Ayo Edebiri, and Dave Bautista.

Bradley Cooper, who proved his unmatched voice-acting prowess with the role of ‘Rocket’ in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ series, reunites with Bong’s world as he takes on the role of ‘Drax,’ a part familiar to many through his ‘Drax’ performance. Joining the cast is also Ayo Edebiri, who has surged to mainstream popularity after sweeping the Emmys with the recent TV series ‘The Bear’, adding fresh energy to the project. In addition, acclaimed actors spanning generations—such as Germany’s master filmmaker Werner Herzog and Finn Wolfhard from ‘Stranger Things’—have confirmed their voice appearances, further elevating the film’s weight.

■ An adventure of an underwater ‘baby pig squid’… Screenplay by Director Yoo Jae-seon

‘ALLY’ is a 3D animated film that follows ‘Ally’, a baby pig squid living in a deep-sea trench who longs to know the human world, along with friends, as they get swept up in unexpected events and set out toward the world beyond the ocean.

As a lifelong dream project conceived by Director Bong Joon-ho since 2019, the film brings a fresh narrative angle with the involvement of Director Yoo Jae-seon, who directed the film ‘Parasite’. The visual effects will be handled by global VFX studio DNEG, and the plan is to create an overwhelming underwater visual style that brings Bong’s signature level of detail to life.

■ Building a global distribution network… Aiming to finish production in the first half of next year

For this project, investment and distribution are handled by CJ ENM, PencherInvesT, and France’s Pathé Films, while production is overseen by Barunsong C&C. For North America, Neon—again, the company that drove the North American box-office success of ‘Parasite’—has teamed up with Bong once more.

With production aiming to be completed in the first half of next year, ‘ALLY’ is already drawing intense expectations from moviegoers around the world. Meanwhile, Korean dubbing casting for domestic audiences will be revealed in stages at a later date.
