[New Film] Jessica Chastain’s ‘Other Mommy’ Opens in Theaters on the 18th, With a Chilling Dual Role

A strange horror wearing a mother’s face, encountered inside the home that should feel safest

Actor Jessica Chastain, whose talent was recognized when she won the Academy Award for Best Actress at the 94th Academy Awards in 2022, is returning to the big screen in the new mystery horror film ‘Other Mommy.’

‘Other Mommy’ follows a young girl who encounters a mysterious presence inside her home—the place that should be the most comfortable in her everyday life—and which looks exactly like her mother. The film turns the primal fear of a trusted protector becoming an unfamiliar threat into psychological suspense.

In the film, Jessica Chastain takes on the demanding “dual role” of a warm, maternal figure and an uncanny, unknown presence. Through subtle shifts in expression and a chillingly restrained performance, she portrays the character’s extreme duality and heightens the film’s genre-driven tension.

At the helm is British director Rob Savage, who has drawn attention for his distinctive visual style. After earning recognition for his original approach to horror with ‘Host,’ he won the trust of genre fans by successfully bringing the Stephen King adaptation ‘The Boogeyman’ (2023) to the screen.

‘Other Mommy,’ combining a deeply affecting performance from a trusted star with the polished visual style of a rising horror filmmaker, opens in theaters on the 18th.
