[New Movie] Brad Pitt Says He Wept Reading the Script for 'Heart of the Beast'… Extreme Survival Story Opens on the 28th

Brad Pitt revealed that he wept while reading the script, putting the new film Heart of the Beast in the spotlight around the world even before its release. The film arrives in theaters across South Korea on the 28th. With meticulous, realistic direction, it tells the extreme survival story of James, a former Army Special Forces soldier, and his longtime comrade-in-arms, military dog Odin, as they face the merciless wilderness of Alaska.

Two lives go from comrades to castaways in the face of nature’s threats

For James (played by Brad Pitt), a former Army Special Forces soldier, Odin is more than just a pet. Whenever James undertook perilous special operations that put his life on the line, Odin was there on the front lines as an elite combat search dog. The two were true comrades-in-arms who shared life-and-death struggles on battlefields filled with the smell of blood and gunpowder.

After leaving the service, they enjoyed a peaceful retirement in the Alaskan wilderness—until a small-plane crash shattered their lives. The unforgiving natural world quickly becomes their most dangerous enemy, and the two begin a desperate fight for survival, relying on each other alone.

A reunion with David Ayer after 12 years, with realism pushed to the limit

The film is directed by David Ayer, who has made major action thrillers including 'Suicide Squad' (2016) and 'The Beekeeper' (2023). It marks his reunion with leading man Brad Pitt 12 years after the acclaimed war film 'Fury' (2014). Combining New Zealand’s majestic locations with sophisticated visual effects (VFX), Ayer has convincingly recreated Alaska’s rugged terrain and unpredictable weather.

Brad Pitt studied the movements of real Special Forces soldiers to portray a 20-year veteran’s toughness, and developed the character’s finer details with guidance from instructors in S.E.R.E., a survival-training program for personnel in hostile territory. Sporting a close-cropped haircut and a shaggy beard for his transformation, he threw himself into the role, plunging into freezing water and tumbling down mountainsides while minimizing the use of stunt doubles.

Remarkable rapport and emotional depth brought to life by four real search-and-rescue dogs

The film’s greatest strength lies in the instinctive, profound bond between humans and animals. Odin is portrayed by four dogs, taking turns in the role: Uber, who has worked as a police and search-and-rescue dog, and his three puppies. The four trained dogs each drew on their particular strengths to handle the complex action and emotional scenes, and command the audience from their first appearance with eyes that seem to hold a deep story.

Odin’s quick response to Brad Pitt’s slightest hand gesture or whistle suggests a trust built over many years and shows the essence of a friendship that transcends species. Their story, in which they take turns rescuing each other even in the most extreme crises, is sure to move audiences to tears.

Why the acclaimed actor chose it as his next film—and its weighty message

Even with a busy schedule that included filming the blockbuster 'F1: The Movie' (2025), the decisive reason Brad Pitt chose Heart of the Beast as his next project was the profound emotion in the script.

In an interview, he expressed his deep affection for the film, saying, "As I read through the script, tears silently came to my eyes before I even realized it, and something deep inside me was profoundly moved." He added, "There was a clear value in this project that made me want to be part of it and bring it to life."

A profound survival story born in a wilderness that tests the limits of human endurance, Heart of the Beast opens on the 28th. It runs 101 minutes and is rated for ages 12 and up.
