[First Impressions]

Brad Pitt and a military working dog face the ultimate fight for survival! 〈Heart of the Beast〉 opens October 28. The film follows James, a former Special Forces soldier, and Odin, a retired military working dog, who saved each other's lives across countless battlefields. When a plane crash strands them in Alaska's rugged wilderness, they must survive together. Cineplay reporter Seong Chan-eol shares his impressions after seeing the film at a press and distributor screening.

Seong Chan-eol / ★★★ / A drama of struggle and regret that leaves you unsure which beat to follow

Was it a mistake to assume a survival movie would be thrilling? 〈Heart of the Beast〉 feels like a spiritual quest disguised as a survival film. Its story of a retired soldier and military working dog, now fighting for their lives in nature rather than on the battlefield, both shows why the dog matters and leaves you wondering why it had to be a military dog at all. The result is hard to pin down. The ending succeeds in drawing an intensely emotional response, but some viewers may find the journey there clichéd.
