A synergy of Hollywood greats and an all-star cast brings a fully realized universe to life

The sci-fi blockbuster ‘Dune: Part Three’, long awaited by movie fans around the world, will be the first film screened anywhere in the world when it opens in Korea on Dec. 16. Distributor Warner Bros. Korea officially announced on the 29th that the film, one of this year’s most anticipated releases, will meet Korean audiences first. The decision is seen as reflecting the growing stature of the Korean film market and the passionate fan base for the ‘Dune’ series in Korea.

In ‘Dune: Part Three,’ Paul (Timothée Chalamet), who stands at the pinnacle of absolute power, confronts an unforgiving fate he cannot escape, amid a vast war on a cosmic scale. Based on the epic novel by Frank Herbert, a giant of American science fiction, the film is the series’ final chapter, bringing to a majestic close the story built across ‘Dune’ (2021) and ‘Dune: Part Two’ (2024).

Denis Villeneuve returns to the director’s chair. Through films including ‘Blade Runner 2049’ and ‘Arrival,’ he has established himself as one of Hollywood’s leading visionary filmmakers, earning acclaim for his striking visuals and thoughtful direction. He is set to deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience with spectacle that surpasses the previous film and a philosophical message.

The cast is also on an unprecedented scale. Chalamet reprises his role as the all-powerful Paul, joined by Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa and Rebecca Ferguson, further enriching the film. Robert Pattinson has also joined the cast in a new role, promising an ensemble unlike any other.

At the South Korean box office, ‘Dune’ drew about 1.54 million moviegoers, while ‘Dune: Part Two’ drew about 2.01 million, building a fervent fan base known as “Dune-crazed fans.” The final chapter is likewise expected to easily surpass the previous film’s box-office record, buoyed by the distinction of opening worldwide first.
