The journey of a living legend elevated to a ‘national symbol’

An official commemorative stamp honoring Lee Sang-hyeok (T1, 30), the living legend of South Korean esports and League of Legends (LoL) star known as ‘Faker’, is set to be issued. The stamp marks a historic milestone for a player whose stature has grown beyond that of a professional gamer to that of a national sports hero.

Korea Post, under the Ministry of Science and ICT, announced on the 10th that it will officially issue 140,000 sheets of the ‘Faker Commemorative Stamp’ and a special stamp album on the 23rd. The stamps will be available at major post offices nationwide and through the Korea Post website. The issue features carefully rendered portraits and pivotal award-winning moments from Lee’s career, charting his rise from his professional debut to global legend.

The issue carries added significance because Lee became the first esports player in history to receive the ‘Cheongnyong Medal’, the highest class of South Korea’s Order of Sport Merit, in January. After officially recognizing his contributions at the national level, the country is now honoring him with the symbolic distinction of a commemorative stamp.

Korea Post also opened the ‘Faker Special Exhibition Hall’ at the Stamp Museum inside Seoul Central Post Office. The exhibition features the commemorative stamps, rare memorabilia including uniforms worn by the player, special videos capturing his greatest moments and an interactive gaming area for visitors. The opening day also included an official presentation ceremony at which Lee received the actual stamps, adding further significance to the event.

Park In-hwan, head of Korea Post, said, "We will continue to devote our full organizational capabilities to operating the ‘Commemorative Stamp Special Exhibition Hall’ so that the Stamp Museum can grow into a global tourist destination that draws visitors from South Korea and abroad, as well as a central cultural space for stamps."
