Anne Hathaway’s 2026: Five Releases, One Remarkable Year

Many actors lit up theaters this year, but if you had to pick one to symbolize 2026, Anne Hathaway would be a strong candidate. Hathaway has appeared in five films this year (by domestic release date), starting with 〈The Devil Wears Prada 2〉. Not because she was somehow in five places at once, but because several release dates clustered together. Still, having that many credits in one year is a fair reward for all the work she’s put in — you might even call it Hathaway’s year. Here are the five Anne Hathaway films that defined 2026.

〈The Devil Wears Prada 2〉 - Andrea Sachs

Released April 29, 2026

Twenty years. That’s how long it took for Anne Hathaway to return as Andrea Sachs. Released April 29, 〈The Devil Wears Prada 2〉 is the sequel to the 2006 film 〈The Devil Wears Prada〉, which made Hathaway a global star. In the first film Andy (Anne Hathaway) worked as the assistant to Runway editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and endured a series of trials. She earns Miranda’s recognition but ultimately leaves the company, disillusioned with the emptiness of the fashion world and Miranda’s life. In the sequel, Andy has become a successful journalist and receives an award, only to be fired from her job that same day. At the same time, Runway is shrinking in the face of a changing media environment, and the parent company that owns the magazine hires Andy as a consultant to revive it. Twenty years on, Miranda and Andy reunite from very different positions.

The film centers on the decline of legacy media and the rise of new media, reflecting the times. At the same time it mines laughs by extending the original’s dynamic in which the already capable Andy still freezes at the sight of Miranda. It also shows Andy resolving problems with the same brilliant resourcefulness as before. Perhaps because the original drew 1.73 million moviegoers in Korea, Hathaway and Meryl Streep visited Korea to meet fans.

〈Odyssey〉 - Penelope

Released August 5, 2026

〈Odyssey〉 Penelope

Even in 2026’s most talked-about film, Hathaway made her presence felt. 〈Odyssey〉 depicts the journey of Odysseus (Matt Damon), king of Ithaca, returning home after the Trojan War, and life in Ithaca during the long years he was away. Hathaway plays Penelope, Odysseus’s wife and the queen of Ithaca — a wise, devoted woman who, while overseeing the customary weaving of the king’s burial shroud, waits for Odysseus every day. In the film she gives Odysseus a pin modeled after the goddess Athena and promises his return; that gesture later plays a major role in his journey.

Hathaway portrays the many faces of a queen placed in those circumstances — at times overwhelmed by loss, at others resolute for the sake of Ithaca — adding depth to Penelope. She also displays queenly dignity in a scene where she clashes with Prince Telemachus (Tom Holland). This film marks Hathaway’s first reunion with director Christopher Nolan in 12 years since Interstellar. Nolan had supported Hathaway when she faced intense public criticism, and that support helps explain why she agreed to reunite with him.

〈The Last Day on Oak Street〉 - Denise Platt

Released August 26, 2026

〈The Last Day on Oak Street〉

One day, the entire neighborhood suddenly shifts back to a prehistoric landscape. The Platt family must somehow survive in a place teeming with animals and dinosaurs. In the peculiar time-travel story set in the 1980s, 〈The Last Day on Oak Street〉, Hathaway plays Denise Platt. Though the family appears close-knit, deep rifts have formed because Denise’s unemployed husband Greg Platt (Ewan McGregor) has shut down and withdrawn. Denise endures by secretly writing. When the neighborhood is thrown into prehistory and the family faces danger, Greg and Denise join forces to protect their children.

Before its release, the film generated buzz for its time-travel premise and its dinosaurs, but overall it proved to be a distinctive blend of 1980s nostalgia and the pop culture of the era. Hathaway plays both a 'housewife in crisis' — someone who could collapse at any moment — and a strong, resilient mother. Hathaway has said she loves director David Robert Mitchell’s debut Follow so much that she counts it among her top three favorite horror films, and she was reportedly thrilled the moment she read his new script.

〈Verity〉 - Verity Crawford

Released October 22, 2026

Next is Verity, which opens October 22. 〈Verity〉 is based on the 2018 novel of the same name and follows a little-known ghostwriter who is hired to complete a manuscript. Little-known writer Lowen (Dakota Johnson) is asked to help Verity (Anne Hathaway), who is paralyzed and has lost her voice after an accident. While drafting the manuscript with the help of Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), Lowen discovers an autobiography Verity wrote before the accident. From that point, Lowen begins to witness Verity — who cannot move at all — appearing elsewhere. Verity is a project Hathaway and Dakota Johnson also produced and were deeply invested in. The novel’s author Colleen Hoover has said she changed her own view of the ending after seeing the film, and that ambiguous finale captivates audiences. To capture Verity’s strange personality, Hathaway would sometimes approach Josh Hartnett on set and hiss like a snake to unsettle him and heighten the tension.

〈Mother Mary〉 - Mother Mary

Scheduled for release November 2026

Anne Hathaway’s 2026 marathon concludes with 〈Mother Mary〉. Though it was first unveiled in North America, it will be the last of her 2026 films to open here. 〈Mother Mary〉 follows an extraordinary pop star, Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway), who during a three-day span reunites with an old friend, Sam (Michaela Coel), for a single outfit she will wear on tour. The film teams A24 with director David Lowery, whose distinctive sensibility fills the movie. Hathaway reportedly trained to the point that her legs "couldn't move" in order to transform into a pop star. In the film’s concert scenes about 400 extras were used, and Hathaway performed as if it were a real show, so viewers can look forward to seeing her pop-star debut in November.
