Past service ties inspire a large-scale volunteer effort
Actor 'Ryu Soo-young' showed his special affection for his former workplace by personally preparing a meal for 1,100 people to mark the 81st Police Day. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 21st that it had successfully held a 'Police Day Special Meal Event' with Ryu Soo-young volunteering his time and skills.
The event was organized to recognize and encourage the efforts of Seoul agency police officers and staff who work to protect the safety of the nation and its citizens. Ryu, who previously served as a 'Combat Police' officer at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and was active in its Public Relations Group (formerly the Whistle Theater Troupe), agreed to take part because of his deep ties to the agency.
His sincerity went beyond a publicity stunt. Ryu took an active role in every stage of the process, from preliminary planning meetings and menu demonstrations to ingredient preparation, cooking and serving. The special meal prepared that day was a massive undertaking, serving '1,100 people' and requiring a total of '1t (ton)' of ingredients.
The meal, named 'A-Nam Teacher’s Birthday Table', combined his cooking alter ego, 'A-Nam Teacher', with the idea of celebrating the police’s birthday. It drew an enthusiastic response from attendees.
An official from the Seoul agency said, "We extend our deepest thanks to actor Ryu Soo-young, who devoted tremendous care to his former workplace out of special affection, despite his busy filming schedule," adding, "With this warm encouragement and support, we will do our utmost to carry out our core mission of protecting the safety of citizens."
