A gathering of global experts and culinary explorers—discovering the real essence of K-seafood
Renowned chef Edward Lee and actor Ryu Sooyoung, who has deep expertise in cooking, have teamed up to share the hidden flavors of Korea’s seas with the world.
KBS announced that the two will star together in a large-scale food documentary, ED & RYU: Twelve Seas (hereafter, Twelve Seas), which will be released simultaneously worldwide starting April 4 every Saturday at 10:40 p.m. on KBS 2TV and "Netflix". Before the broadcast, it was pre-released last month on the 22nd through "BBC Earth" and "BBC Player" Asia channels, already drawing strong acclaim from global viewers.
Planned as a four-part series, Twelve Seas puts a spotlight on the overwhelming appeal of Korea’s "seafood", which changes dramatically with the seasons—winter, spring, summer, and fall. More than just introducing food, it also takes the form of an authoritative humanities documentary, exploring Korea’s distinctive history and maritime culture built up over time behind the ingredients.
Chef Edward Lee said, “While "K-food" is creating an unprecedented global buzz, the truth is that it’s still confined to a narrow frame of ‘Korean-style barbecue.’” He added, “This is the time for Korea’s original and great "seafood" culture to step right into the center of the global culinary scene,” unveiling the project’s aim. The landmark meeting between the two experts is expected to open a new chapter in which "K-food" expands its reach to the sea.
