The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 27th that it will air a documentary 〈K-GIM (Seaweed) Revolution〉 to promote the excellence of Korean seaweed.
This documentary is planned to highlight the excellence of Korean seafood, focusing on seaweed, which is a representative item of the export integrated brand K-FISH.
Michelin 3-star chef Ahn Sung-jae, who gained great popularity as the host of the Netflix entertainment program 〈Culinary Class Wars〉, is participating as the host, drawing attention.
Last year, the export value of seafood products reached 3.33 billion dollars (approximately 4.8 trillion won), marking the highest record ever. Among these, the export value of seaweed, the top item, was 1.13 billion dollars, accounting for one-third of the total export value, establishing itself as a key item in the Korean seafood industry.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries stated, "Through this documentary, we plan to widely promote our expression 'GIM' to consumers around the world and shed light on the impact of Korean seaweed, which has taste and quality competitiveness, on the global gourmet market."
Korean seaweed occupies more than 70% of the global market, but it is still more commonly referred to by the Japanese name 'Nori' or the term 'Seaweed' in the global market.
The documentary will be broadcast on MBC at 9 PM on the 28th and will also be simultaneously released on online video services (OTT) such as Wavve. In the United States, it will be broadcast through MBC America, in the UK and Europe through History UK, and in 23 countries in Asia through the Lifetime Asia channel.
