Singer and actor Cha Eun-woo, who is currently serving in the military, officially stated on the 26th, "I sincerely apologize" regarding the recent allegations of tax evasion amounting to hundreds of billions of won.
On that day, Cha Eun-woo posted a message on his social media service (SNS), stating, "I will diligently engage in the upcoming tax-related procedures" and added, "I will humbly accept the results based on the final judgment made by the relevant authorities and fulfill my responsibilities accordingly."
The tax evasion controversy arose after reports emerged that Cha Eun-woo received a notice from the National Tax Service for the collection of over 2 billion won in income tax. His agency, Fantagio, announced on the 22nd that "this is not a finalized or notified matter," but this is the first time Cha Eun-woo has personally expressed his feelings.
Cha Eun-woo reflected, "This incident has made me deeply reconsider whether my attitude as a citizen of South Korea towards my tax obligations has been sufficiently strict," and he shared, "I have spent the last few days contemplating how I can convey my apologies to those who have been hurt by me, and I have taken time to reflect on this."
Cha Eun-woo, who enlisted in the Army as an active-duty soldier last July and is currently serving, also addressed the allegations of draft dodging that have been raised. He explained, "I am currently serving in the military, but it was never an intentional choice to avoid this controversy. I had to enlist last year as I could no longer postpone it, and I ended up enlisting without completing the tax investigation procedures."
He continued, "However, this misunderstanding also stems from my shortcomings, and I feel deeply responsible for it," adding, "If I were not in the military, I would want to personally visit everyone who has been affected by this incident and sincerely apologize to them."
Cha Eun-woo expressed, "I am extremely sorry for not being able to repay all those who have believed in and supported me, and for causing great pain and fatigue," and reiterated, "I will reflect on myself more strictly in the future and live with a greater sense of responsibility to repay the love I have received."
