
The representative OTT platform in Korea, TVING, announced on the 29th that it will officially launch its self-produced short form content 'TVING Short Original' based on its K-content production capabilities on August 4th. 'TVING Short Original' is short form content of 1-2 minutes per episode, planned and produced directly by TVING, offering exclusive content that encompasses various genres from drama to entertainment based on concise development and immersive storytelling.
The first releases of 'TVING Short Original' on August 4th and 18th will sequentially unveil a total of 4 episodes with different themes and genres, including suspense revenge, office romance, BL (Boys Love), and romance, contributing to the expansion of TVING's original library and the broader reach of K-content. In particular, this 'TVING Short Original' features a production team praised for its stylish direction and a number of fresh faces with solid acting skills, signaling a differentiated change in the short form content market.
The first episode, 〈Shut Up, You're the Villain of My Work〉, which will be released on August 4th, is a suspense revenge drama about a school violence victim who has become a famous drama writer meeting the perpetrator who bullied her as the lead actor, expected to provide thrilling tension during the hot summer. It marks the first short drama appearance of actress Park Yoo-na, who starred in 〈SKY Castle〉 and 〈Hotel Del Luna〉, and is directed by PD Jung Jong-hoon, who directed the hit webtoon adaptation 〈Girl's World 2〉, showcasing his second collaboration with writer Jung Hee-yoon after the short form drama 〈Love Money Mafia〉.
The same day, 〈Neighbor Killer〉 will be released, starring Cha Hak-yeon, the leader of the group VIXX and an actor, and model and rookie actor Kang Ri-han, drawing attention. This content depicts a killer who fears guns and knives and kills in bizarre ways, and the bromance between a former superstar baseball player. It is the first short drama co-participated by PD Yang Jeong-woo of tvN 〈Ask Us Anything〉 and writer Jeong Bo-hun of 〈Prison Playbook〉, and their synergy in this new format challenge is being highlighted.
On August 18th, 〈I Will Repay Infidelity with Infidelity〉 and 〈Me, Myself and I〉 will be released. 〈I Will Repay Infidelity with Infidelity〉 is a 19+ office romance drama where the protagonist, betrayed by her husband and best friend, starts a dangerous contract affair with her best friend's husband for revenge. It is a collaboration between PD Lee Si-young, who won the 'Best Web Drama' at the APAN Star Awards for 〈Contract Dating from Today〉, and writer Park Ji-eun of 〈Half of Me〉, aiming to captivate viewers with a fast-paced plot full of twists. A number of rookie actors, including Baek Soo-hee, Jo Chan-hyun, Kim Sang-hee, and Jeong Ha-kyung, who have left a short but strong impression through various filmographies, will appear.
〈Me, Myself and I〉 is a high school growth story that unfolds in the short drama format, showcasing TVING's strength in 'school stories'. It tells the story of an ordinary high school girl who seeks true love after receiving a call from her future self ten years later, featuring rookie Kim Si-eun from 〈Family Planning〉 and Yoon Hyun-seok, a member of the group CIX. PD Choi Seong-hwan, who planned and wrote the documentary 〈Ryu Jun-yeol and Photographers in School Uniforms〉, and PD Kim Yul, who directed the web dramas 〈Love Formula Gu Ha-ri〉 and 〈Don't Worry, Salgu〉, participated in the project.
'TVING Short Original' will be available for viewing on mobile and tablet through a dedicated brand section within the TVING app, and to celebrate the first launch, all 'Short Originals' and short form content released this year will be available for free to everyone. TVING stated, "We plan to showcase various short dramas through collaborations with external production companies as well as our self-produced short originals," and added, "Based on TVING's differentiated K-content production capabilities, we will lead the expansion of the domestic K-content market by encompassing diversity in genres and formats."
