〈Avatar〉 series director James Cameron is gaining attention with an interview related to his upcoming work .
Known as the 'box office wizard' for the 〈Terminator〉 series, 〈Titanic〉, and 〈Avatar〉 series, James Cameron recently revealed his next project after 〈Avatar: The Way of Water〉. He mentioned that he plans to depict the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, based on the book 〈Ghosts of Hiroshima〉 which deals with survivors of the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
Recently, in an interview with the media outlet 'Deadline', he expressed various opinions about this upcoming project, stating that he "will not engage in political debates" and "only wants to address the victims of the atomic bomb." He added that he felt a "sense of avoidance of the subject" when mentioning the film 〈Oppenheimer〉 which deals with Julius Robert Oppenheimer, the developer of the atomic bomb.
There are currently diverse opinions regarding his attitude expressed during the interview. In Korea, the reaction is that not addressing why Japan was subjected to the atomic bomb is a narrow perspective, contrary to what Cameron himself claims. In particular, there are sharp opinions that it is hypocritical to depict only the suffering of the oppressors in this film while portraying humans oppressing indigenous people in the 〈Avatar〉 series.
