The movie 〈Chocolate〉 with its bizarre charm set against a backdrop of a white snowy field, will be released on November 19, and has unveiled its main poster and main trailer. The film 〈Chocolate〉 is a psychological drama that portrays the process of a woman, ‘Yeon-hee (Lim Chae-young)’, who lives only on chocolate after losing her family, gradually succumbing to destructive instincts in a world devoid of compassion.

The released main trailer begins with Yeon-hee (Lim Chae-young) enduring hard labor in a meat processing factory, accompanied by the calm line, “I’m just living. Because I’m alive,” following her daily life as she gradually crumbles in the cold reality. The uneasy relationship with her husband’s friend and her only lifeline, Seo-jin (Kim Sun-hyuk), intersects, amplifying the film’s realistic tension and emotional fractures. Particularly, Yeon-hee’s line stating that her dream is to be a “happy woman” ironically intertwines with her deteriorating present, evoking both anxiety and curiosity.

The main poster released alongside the trailer captivates attention with its striking visuals, showcasing a cold-toned realism image contrasted with a red scarf. Yeon-hee’s expression, gazing somewhere with a scarred face, symbolically represents the anxious inner world of a character left alone in the world. The tension created by the character’s expression and colors compressively reveals the emotional weight of the film, effectively foreshadowing the atmosphere of a psychological drama encompassing loss, obsession, and destructive instincts.

The director Yang Ji-eun, who wrote and directed the film 〈Chocolate〉, gained recognition for her previous work 〈Sook-hee〉, which entered the feature competition at the Jeonju International Film Festival, receiving praise for its ‘bold direction’ and ‘strangely captivating work’. Additionally, the lead role of Yeon-hee is played by ‘Lim Chae-young’, an actress who has consistently garnered attention in the independent film scene, winning the ‘Best Actress Award’ at the ‘Great Short Film Festival’, and proving her acting skills through prestigious film festivals such as Cannes, Jeonju International Film Festival, and Sitges Film Festival. The film 〈Chocolate〉, sharply capturing the destructive instincts hidden deep within human nature, will be released in theaters nationwide on November 19.
