Park Mi-sun Returns to Broadcasting After Battling Breast Cancer... "It Was Painful, But I Am Receiving Treatment to Live"

Comedian Park Mi-sun returned to broadcasting after about a year of battling breast cancer, revealing her healthy appearance.

On the 12th, she appeared on the tvN entertainment program 〈You Quiz On The Block〉 and said, "I came out to report my survival," directly sharing her breast cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy process. She appeared with a shorter hairstyle due to chemotherapy and said, "I thought people might be surprised by my bold look, but I came out bravely," joking, "Doesn't it feel like a designer who studied abroad in Italy?"

Park Mi-sun revealed that breast cancer was discovered during a comprehensive health check last year. She said, "I had surgery on Christmas Eve, December 24, and when they opened me up, it had spread to the lymph nodes," adding, "If it spreads, chemotherapy is mandatory. I received radiation therapy 16 times and am currently undergoing medication treatment."

She also detailed the pain she experienced during chemotherapy. She confessed, "It's treatment to live, but it felt like I was going to die," and shared, "I lost my voice due to chemotherapy, and my peripheral nerves were paralyzed, causing the sensation in my fingertips to disappear." Additionally, she mentioned, "I had hives all over my body, and herpes (blisters) appeared to the point where my skin became saggy."

The most dangerous moment was when she developed pneumonia. Park Mi-sun recalled, "During the fourth round of chemotherapy, I got pneumonia. I was hospitalized for two weeks because my fever wouldn't go down," adding, "My caregivers were very worried."

She reported that her condition has improved significantly. She said, "I came out today hoping many people would gain strength from it," emphasizing, "If breast cancer is detected through early screening, the cure rate is high."

Since her debut in 1988, Park Mi-sun has been active for 38 years, crossing over from comedy programs to talk shows and sitcoms. She said, "I took exactly two months off, one month after giving birth to my first child and one month after my second child," adding, "I thought of myself not as a celebrity but as someone working at a broadcasting company."

Regarding the concerns about her health when she stepped down from all broadcasting programs last December, she explained, "The words of acquaintances were reported, and it seemed like everyone thought I was 'sick' or 'going to die soon.'" She explained the background of her appearance on 〈You Quiz〉 now that her health has recovered.

However, she clarified that she is not completely cured. Park Mi-sun stated, "The cancer I was diagnosed with is breast cancer, which cannot use the word 'cured.' It is a cancer that I must always be careful about and live with regular check-ups."

She also mentioned that her attitude towards life has changed due to this battle. She reflected, "I had no other symptoms, but I was tired. I would doze off during recording times and was so tired that I just kept sleeping in the waiting room," adding, "That was a signal, but I overlooked it and kept pushing myself." She resolved, "I don't know what next year will be like. I plan to live without planning. Now, I want to try living a life where I can rest like water flows."

The broadcast also included video messages from colleagues celebrating Park Mi-sun's recovery. Actors Sunwoo Yong-yeo, comedian Lee Kyung-sil, Jo Hye-ryun, and her daughter Lee Yoo-ri also unusually revealed their faces and sent supportive messages.

On this day, Park Mi-sun posted a photo with 'You Quiz' hosts Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho on her Instagram for the first time in six months, explaining, "This is my only schedule this year." This is the first post since May 28. She said, "I was really worried about whether to go out or not, whether to wear a wig or not? I thought a lot... but since so many people were curious and worried, I gathered my courage and appeared on the show."
