'Avatar: The Way of Fire', Global Box Office Surpasses $1 Billion... Just 2 Weeks After Release

Director James Cameron's 〈Avatar〉 series' third installment 'Avatar: The Way of Fire' has surpassed $1 billion in global box office revenue, continuing its box office legend. The investment and distribution company Walt Disney Company announced this news on the 4th (local time).

According to Disney and the U.S. box office revenue tracking site 'Box Office Mojo', 〈Avatar: The Way of Fire〉 recorded approximately $1.0831 billion (about 1.5662 trillion won) in ticket sales worldwide as of the previous day.

This achievement comes just over 2 weeks after its North American release on the 19th of last month, earning $306 million in North America and $777.1 million overseas.

Disney particularly noted significant achievements in China ($138 million), France ($81 million), Germany ($64 million), and Korea ($44 million, approximately 63.6 billion won).

The series' previous films, 〈Avatar〉 (2009) and 〈Avatar: The Way of Water〉 (2022), recorded total box office revenues of $2.92371 billion (about 42.281 trillion won) and $2.34348 billion (about 33.88 trillion won), respectively.

With the addition of 〈Avatar: The Way of Fire〉, the total box office revenue for the three films in the series has exceeded $6.35 billion (about 91.821 trillion won), placing it among the highest-grossing film series in history.

Disney stated, "Director James Cameron's innovative series has achieved yet another monumental success," adding that "〈Avatar: The Way of Fire〉 continues its box office momentum through premium theater demand and long-term overseas screenings."

〈Avatar: The Way of Fire〉 has become the third film among Disney's 2025 releases to surpass $1 billion in box office revenue, following 〈Zootopia 2〉 and 〈Lilo & Stitch〉.
