A living legend of Korean comics, artist Lee Hyun-se has picked up his pen once again on the new canvas of webtoons.
Kakao Entertainment announced that on the 13th, it will release the webtoon 'Blue Angel Reboot', a modern reinterpretation of Lee Hyun-se's 1991 hit work, through KakaoPage and KakaoWebtoon. This marks a spectacular return after 35 years.
'Blue Angel Reboot' continues the story of the female detective 'Ha Ji-ran', who showcased unparalleled charisma when it was published in 1991. While the original comic 〈Blue Angel〉 was an action drama featuring a tough detective navigating a brutal world of crime, this reboot webtoon depicts a desperate revenge story that begins as Ha Ji-ran, facing death at the moment of retirement, miraculously regains her youth. This work, reborn as a full-color webtoon, captures more thrilling action and profound social messages tailored to the sensibilities of 2026.
In particular, artist Lee Hyun-se conveys a unique determination regarding this work, which resonates deeply. He confessed, "It's a dark and gloomy story, but I wanted to convey the message that life is worth living because of love," adding, "I drew 'Blue Angel Reboot' with the fierce mindset that it could be my last webtoon."
To commemorate this launch, 20 of Lee Hyun-se's treasured masterpieces that have made a mark in the history of Korean comics, including 〈The Fearsome Foreign Baseball Team〉, 〈Police〉, and 〈Fly, Magpie〉, will also be available in book form. It will be a special opportunity to meet immortal characters like Magpie, Thumb, and Ma Dong-tak, who have graced the era once again.
The webtoon 'Blue Angel Reboot' will be serialized every Friday.
