On the 30th anniversary of 〈Doctor Who: The Movie〉, a 4K remaster trailer has been released.
〈Doctor Who: The Movie〉 was a TV movie created in collaboration with Fox targeting the American market after the BBC's flagship drama 〈Doctor Who〉 ended in 1993. Released in 1996, it featured Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. The story depicts the Doctor, who loses all memories immediately after regeneration, regaining his memories and confronting his arch-nemesis, the Master.
Upon its release, the movie had a significantly different atmosphere and setting compared to the existing series, failing to capture both the existing fandom and new American viewers, which resulted in no follow-up episodes being produced. Thus, it remains the only episode featuring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. Nearly a decade later, as the new season of 〈Doctor Who〉 rebooted and regained popularity, 〈Doctor Who: The Movie〉 was also re-evaluated. In light of this, the BBC announced the 4K remastering of 〈Doctor Who: The Movie〉 to celebrate its 30th anniversary, along with the release of the trailer.
The released trailer greets fans with a clearer image quality thanks to the 4K remastering. It features the Seventh Doctor played by Sylvester McCoy, the regenerated Eighth Doctor Paul McGann, and the antics of his companion, Dr. Grace Holloway, as well as the Master portrayed by Eric Roberts. 〈Doctor Who: The Movie〉 is set to be released locally on secondary media such as Blu-ray without a separate airing.
