The Last Chapter of the “Fan Deception” Controversy… JYP Draws the Line
Band ‘Xdinary Heroes’ member ‘Gunil’ has, in the end, been hit with an ignominious exit. Just days after the so-called ‘fan insult recording’ scandal erupted, the agency and the artist have put a period at the end of their relationship.
‘JYP Entertainment’ said in an official statement on the 13th that it “will have Gunil leave the team effective today and terminate the exclusive contract.” The move is seen as a swift and decisive response by the agency, given how explosive the issue has become.
The incident began with a disclosure by the artist’s so-called ‘ex-girlfriend’, which swept through online communities. A netizen who claimed to be Gunil’s former partner alleged that he unleashed harsh, direct criticism at fans and presented a ‘recording’ containing a male voice as evidence. While the legal authenticity of the audio has not been clearly established, public disappointment had already spread beyond control.
As the fallout grew, JYP said, “After deeply recognizing the seriousness of the matter and discussing it with the artist from multiple angles, we determined that we cannot continue working together on team activities.” It explained the contract termination backdrop as coming through ‘mutual agreement.’
The agency bowed to fans who were shocked by the sudden turn of events, while also making it clear that Xdinary Heroes will be reorganized into a ‘five-member system.’ The agency said it plans to provide full support so the remaining members do not deviate from their musical trajectory.
Gunil debuted in 2021 as the band’s ‘drummer.’ But amid the deadly private-life controversy and allegations of fan deception, his musical journey has been left with a bitter stain.
