Directed by Jang Hang-jun and starring Yoo Hae-jin and Park Ji-hoon, the movie 〈The King and the Clown〉 has rapidly surpassed 6 million viewers.
Distributor Showbox officially announced on the 23rd that the cumulative audience for 〈The King and the Clown〉 exceeded 6 million on that day.
What stands out is the speed of its success. Compared to the 10 million movie 〈The King and the Clown〉 (2005), which achieved 6 million viewers in 29 days, 〈The King and the Clown〉 reached the same milestone 9 days earlier.
〈The King and the Clown〉 ultimately attracted 10.51 million viewers. Additionally, it reached the 6 million mark at the same pace as 〈Masquerade〉, which gathered 12.32 million viewers in 2012.
This film, starring Yoo Hae-jin and Park Ji-hoon, depicts the story of the deposed King Danjong Lee Hong-wi (played by Park Ji-hoon) spending his final days under the human care of village chief Eom Heung-do (played by Yoo Hae-jin) in his exile in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province.
The process of Lee Hong-wi, who lost his will to live amid unbearable trials, regaining his strong resolve through interactions with the villagers, who are both his subjects and neighbors, is depicted with a warm perspective.
With content that the whole family can enjoy, it has secured the number one spot at the weekend box office for three consecutive weeks, including the Lunar New Year holiday, and has maintained the overall box office lead for 11 consecutive days.
