The film 〈28 Years Later: The Temple of Bones〉 is making waves by revealing the astonishing production behind the film's iconic space, the ‘Temple of Bones’, along with critical acclaim.
250,000 Bone Fragments and 5,500 Skulls… A Memorial Space Completed with Dedication
The core stage of this work, the ‘Temple of Bones’, is an expanded result of a space that left a strong impression in the previous installment. The production team created a massive set using approximately 250,000 bone fragments, 5,500 skulls, and over 1,000 vertical structures to achieve a grandiose presence that overwhelms the audience.
In the center of the temple, a gigantic sundial is placed alongside an altar representing the transience of life, known as ‘Vanitas’. Production designer Gareth Pugh described this space as “a collection of objects that tell the story of life and death,” visually reflecting the message of ‘Memento Mori’ (remember death) conveyed by the character ‘Dr. Kelson’ (played by Ralph Fiennes).
Critic Lee Dong-jin Praises It as “The Story of Those Who Created Hell” for Its Bold Direction
The critical response has been enthusiastic. Critic Lee Dong-jin remarked, “It is the story of those who created hell, and as the second installment of a trilogy, it is a film with bold ambition,” acknowledging the depth of the work.
Audiences are also thrilled by the philosophical narrative that goes beyond a simple zombie film. Reviews from actual viewers are pouring in, stating, “A story that transcends a simple genre” (CGV_Peace***), and “Each sequence evokes both chills and anticipation” (CGV_Truth***), showcasing its unyielding box office power even in its second week of release.
Evolved Horror and Human Madness… Now Showing in Theaters Nationwide
〈28 Years Later: The Temple of Bones〉 depicts the evolved horror that unfolds as Dr. Kelson, who honors the dead, becomes entangled with Spike and the leader Jimmy Crystal, who is engulfed in madness.
Armed with majestic visuals and intense psychological warfare, this work is currently showing in theaters nationwide, presenting audiences with a new horizon in the zombie apocalypse genre.
