A legendary criminal, Chris Hemsworth X a relentless detective, Mark Ruffalo! 〈Crime 101〉 tells the story of what happens when perfectionist highway-stealing crook ‘Davis’ (Chris Hemsworth) clashes with ‘Lou’ (Mark Ruffalo), a detective who relentlessly hunts him down. It’s an unpredictable crime thriller movie, releasing on April 8. Cineplay editor Joo Seong-cheol shares his thoughts after watching the film in advance.
Joo Seong-cheol / ★★★☆ / Among crime action films, this is the one I liked the most—Han-shik-style, not Thor.
A showdown between Thor and Hulk? Inside the chase between a thief (Chris Hemsworth) who always pulls off a perfect crime and an out-of-date cop (Mark Ruffalo), you can feel the lonely, languid landscape of desire that only the city of LA could deliver. Since the film is adapted from the original work by Don Winslow—who wrote 「The Power of the Dog」, 「The Force」, and more—the way it weaves characters and incidents tightly together is quite impressive, and the downtown chase scenes are every bit as much of a highlight as 〈Drive〉 〈Baby Driver〉. You might be taken aback by the 2 hours and 20 minutes runtime, but a star-studded cast—featuring Halle Berry, Nick Nolte, Barry Keoghan, and even Jennifer Jason Leigh—fills it all out richly.
