The opening act for a global survival thriller, “Lee Joon-gi” returns in dramatic fashion

Channel A’s new drama “Kidnap Game”, launching first in October, is a global co-production brought together by Korea’s Sim Story, Japan’s Fuji TV, and Hong Kong’s MakerVille. With a confirmed plan to release simultaneously across 18 regions worldwide, it is expected to open a new chapter for K-content.

“Kidnap Game” shines a light on an unprecedented kidnapping case that erupts simultaneously across seven major Asian cities, including Seoul, Tokyo and Taipei. The story carefully and tensely depicts the process of seven people, each assigned different missions, throwing themselves into a life-or-death survival game to rescue their loved ones.

In the drama, “Lee Joon-gi” plays the retired doctor “Han Gi-joo”, who launches into an extreme fight to save his daughter, who is visually impaired. Having proven his distinctive acting skills in the genre world, he is drawing attention from critics and audiences around the world for the heavy and harrowing fatherly love he will bring to the screen.

The flashy casting lineup also sparks interest, befitting a global project. “Kentaro Sakaguchi”, an actor with a strong fan base in South Korea thanks to his popular Japanese drama “Wanderlust”, joins the cast as the elite detective “Nii de Toshirō”, who risks everything. In addition, “Alice Ko” (Jia Jia Yan), the star of the mega-hit Taiwanese drama “Some Day or One Day”, takes on the role of the influencer “Christina”, whose husband has been kidnapped, maximizing the show’s immersion.

Beyond that, major stars representing across Asia, including “Joel Torre”, a national-acting figure in the Philippines, and “Stanley Yau”, a popular Hong Kong boy-group member of Mirror, round out the lineup to promise an overwhelming scale and a solid level of completion.
