‘Disclosure Day’ First Reactions: Cineplay Reporters’ Star Ratings

We were all deceived. Even we, watching a film that tells us we are being deceived, are deceived. It may seem to be a film about aliens and conspiracy theories, but it sketches Spielberg's vision of humanity, the world and religion (personally, I would call it a religious film). The movie often appears ordinary, but set against a global crisis and Spielberg's personal life, that ordinariness takes on a vast context. It's strange — I don't suddenly feel an urge to heap praise on it, yet I'm certain it will be discussed by many people for a long time. I can guarantee it is far from 'ordinary.'

A classic conspiracy thriller returns in 2026. In an age when truth itself is so often distorted, Steven Spielberg seems to have a lot to say. In the flood of truth and falsehood, if a single, definitive truth emerged that could shake the foundations of our beliefs, what then? And even if it did, must we confront it? Spielberg unpacks these questions through the existence of 'extraterrestrial life,' a subject he has explored for years. At times Spielberg’s questions are very direct; at others, they come across as ambiguous, so depending on which elements a viewer focuses on, the film may feel crystal clear to some and vague to others.
