‘OK! Madam 2’ Former Legend Agent Uhm Jung-hwa Perfectly Takes Command, From Comedy to High-Intensity Action

South Korea’s “Madonna” Uhm Jung-hwa makes her return to the big screen for the first time in three years with 〈OK! Madam 2〉, and this time she sets her sights on becoming South Korea’s Tom Cruise. 〈OK! Madam 2〉 is a comedic action story about a family of a former legendary agent, who sets out on an ultra-luxury cruise to escape the heat and the grind of everyday life, getting caught up in a blue-sea cruise kidnapping incident. Along the way, Uhm Jung-hwa, who has built a solid filmography across genres ranging from comedy to thriller and action, has also cemented herself as a versatile entertainer who moves seamlessly between screen and stage—matching the stature of a national singing star. Her return to a box-office action franchise once again proves her unmistakable presence.

In the previous installment released in 2020, Uhm Jung-hwa played “Yiming,” a former agent caught up in a high-flying airplane hijacking incident, delivering refreshing action. In 〈OK! Madam 2〉, she moves the setting to an ultra-luxury cruise sailing across the blue sea, showing even more powerful action. The “Yiming” portrayed by Uhm Jung-hwa was a former legendary agent once known as “Code Name: Mokryunghwa,” but she now lives an ordinary life while running a twisted-doughnut shop. With a struggling business, a reckless unemployed husband, and looking after a daughter going through adolescence, her hectic day-to-day life is thrown into chaos after she receives an invitation to a luxury cruise wedding. She then finds herself unexpectedly caught up in a kidnapping incident and awakens the dormant hero instincts within her.

Uhm Jung-hwa will move back and forth between the extremes of a regular, practical twisted-doughnut shop owner and a legendary agent at maximum attack power, delivering laughter, pathos, and catharsis. The balance of human warmth and seasoned know-how that only Uhm Jung-hwa can provide is expected to give audiences a fresh kind of appeal with a twist. Speaking about this film, Uhm Jung-hwa said, "I was so happy that a sequel to my beloved 〈OK! Madam〉 was made.
