[First reactions at the press screening]
〈Sanyangdeul〉, a wilderness adventure about four solitary girls who build a refuge of their own and embark on a small-animal rescue mission, opens July 29. Cineplay Editor Joo Sung-chul reviewed the film after its press screening.
Joo Sung-chul / ★★★☆ / A cute, spirited loner-girl take on 〈Stand by Me〉
It is both an adventure about solitary girls, with the college entrance exam approaching, who are just beginning to step into the world, and a road movie in the mold of 〈Stand by Me〉 (1986), revealing each girl’s vulnerabilities and holding them close as they head toward a shelter of their own. Call it the real thing when it comes to guidance for young people: never preachy, never intrusive. I’m rooting for Park Hye-jin, Lee Seung-yeon, Park Hyo-eun and Choi Su-in; I hope all four actors can go anywhere like mountain goats.
