Directed by Jung Ji-woo and starring Ji Chang-wook and Nana, this is a bold reinterpretation of the 2003 classic

South Korea’s leading actors ‘Son Ye-jin’, ‘Ji Chang-wook’ and ‘Nana’ will appear before audiences worldwide in Netflix’s original series ‘Scandal’. Netflix said it will release the new series on the 18th of next month, reinterpreting the classic film of the same name that left a lasting mark on South Korea’s film industry more than 20 years ago.

The new ‘Scandal’ carries forward the story of the 2003 film, which transplanted the French classic novel ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ into the Joseon era and sparked a cultural phenomenon. The series follows a fatal story hurtling toward catastrophe as ‘Madam Jo’, a noblewoman with absolute power and talent, and ‘Jo-won’, Joseon’s most alluring womanizer, devise a secret and dangerous game of love that ensnares ‘Hee-yeon’, a widow who has steadfastly guarded her chastity.

In the series, ‘Son Ye-jin’ plays ‘Madam Jo’, the woman who designs the entire game and proposes the wager, bringing an overwhelming charisma to the role. Opposite her, ‘Ji Chang-wook’ plays ‘Jo-won’, a man who uses his fatal charm to pursue his targets and heightens the tension throughout the series. ‘Nana’ has been cast as ‘Hee-yeon’, the wager’s intended victim and its unpredictable variable, and is expected to deliver a deeply immersive performance.

The series is directed by ‘Director Jung Ji-woo’, who demonstrated a refined aesthetic probing the depths of human nature through the films ‘A Muse’ and ‘Tune in for Love.’ Global content markets will be watching to see what synergy his rich, detailed direction creates with Netflix’s vast resources.
