Kim Do-wan says first villain role in 〈Spooky in Love〉 will stay with him for life

Kim Do-wan shared his thoughts on the finale of tvN's weekend drama 〈Spooky in Love〉 — directed by Lee Min-su, written by Choi Jeong-mi, planned by CJ ENM and produced by CJ ENM·CJ ENM STUDIOS·B.pic·Sangsang Film — saying his first turn as a villain will remain a lifelong memory. Namu Actors released Kim's reflections after the series wrapped on Aug. 23.

In the drama, Kim played Park Seung-jae, the only son of a sitting lawmaker at the top of a cartel in South Korea and a "100% pure gold-spoon" villain. Park, who stopped at nothing in pursuit of money and status, returned home after receiving compassionate leave following his father's death while serving time for the murder of a former lover. He obtained a camcorder containing evidence that Min-hwan (played by Ong Seong-wu) had killed Ji-hwan (played by Kim Min-cheol), and while blackmailing Min-hwan he ultimately lost his life. Using his distinctive low voice and cold expression, Kim emerged as a key player, holding crucial clues and ratcheting up the tension.

In remarks released by his agency, Kim said, "Because this was my first time taking on a villain, I was very nervous during filming and worried about how viewers would respond, but I enjoyed the process the whole way through, learned a lot, and it will remain a wonderful memory for the rest of my life. I sincerely thank the viewers who enjoyed 〈Spooky in Love〉." He added, "Next time I will return in a different role to show a different side of myself."

Kim's first villain role showcased his range and ability to inhabit a character, and attention is now turning to what he does next.
