'Only One Earth Film Festival' brings 58 films from 29 countries to Busan to explore ways to survive the climate crisis

Climate disasters today, captured through 58 distinct perspectives

The fifth annual Only One Earth Film Festival, which takes a clear-eyed look at the severity of the climate crisis threatening humanity's survival, will be held from Sept. 3 to 7 at the Busan Cinema Center and surrounding venues. Fifty-eight carefully selected environmental films from 29 countries will be screened, giving audiences a vivid and weighty view of the climate disasters unfolding today.

This year's festival adopts the direct and powerful theme Back to Earth, Earth and Us. Co-organized by Finding Nature's Rights and the Busan Cinema Center and supported by the Busan Metropolitan Government, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and others, the event goes beyond simply raising awareness. It focuses on building practical solidarity through everyday action.

Alongside environmental film screenings, the festival will offer a multifaceted lineup including a poster competition, an academic conference and interactive exhibitions. The opening ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Busan Cinema Center's Outdoor Theater.

The opening film drawing the most attention is director Jin Jae-woon's documentary Song of the Trees. Rather than getting lost in grand, abstract discussions of the climate, the film offers sharp yet warm insight into how the severed relationship between people and nature can be restored through the concrete act of planting and caring for trees.
