Kim Dong-ryul returns to Sejong Center’s Grand Theater with solo concert after 7 years

“Voice” and “band” at the center of bold musical experiment

Singer-songwriter Kim Dong-ryul will make a triumphant return to the Grand Theater stage at Seoul’s Sejong Center for the Performing Arts after seven years. His agency, Music Farm Entertainment, officially announced on the 31st that it will hold the solo concert “Old Song” in October.

The concert will be held seven times, from Oct. 17 to 19 and from Oct. 22 to 25. Ticket sales for what is expected to be a fiercely competitive rush will begin at 5 p.m. on the 4th of next month.

Music Farm said, “At the very venue that left a lasting impression in 2019, we plan to once again share a profound musical connection with the audience under the same title.”

The most notable feature of the concert is the decision to boldly leave out an “orchestra” arrangement for the first time since his debut. Rather than pursuing a grand scale, the show will focus entirely on a stripped-down band arrangement and the artist’s “voice” itself. It will also curate and present hidden gems in a chamber-like style that are difficult to showcase on a large-scale stage.

Kim Dong-ryul said through social media on the 25th, “I wanted to properly showcase the overwhelming musicianship of our Yul Band, which may have been obscured by the dazzling “orchestra” sound,” clearly explaining the concept behind the concert. He added, “We will also try new stage-production techniques that were physically constrained when I filled the stage as a performer,” further fueling fans’ curiosity and anticipation.
