A master filmmaker returns as a mystery thriller emerges from the shadows
Director Yeon Sang-ho’s next film, ‘Paradise Lost’, is drawing attention from critics around the world. Organizers of the upcoming 31st ‘Busan International Film Festival’ announced on the 9th that they had officially invited the film to the festival’s flagship ‘Gala Presentation’ section.
The ‘Gala Presentation’ is a showcase reserved for new films by world-renowned masters and the year’s most talked-about titles. Because it gives directors and actors a chance to engage directly with audiences in an in-depth artistic exchange, the invitation signals high expectations for the film.
After earning the global spotlight with its selection for the 51st ‘Toronto International Film Festival’, ‘Paradise Lost’ will meet Korean audiences for the first time at Busan as its ‘Asian premiere.’
The film follows a chilling story set in motion when a son who disappeared without a trace returns after nine long years looking entirely different. A mystery thriller marked by meticulous psychological detail, it stars seasoned performer ‘Kim Hyun-joo’ and rising star ‘Bae Hyun-sung,’ whose explosive on-screen chemistry is expected to drive the film.
