A megahit that shook Japan is being reborn in South Korea. Actress ‘Im Yoon-ah’ will return to television as the lead of tvN’s most anticipated drama of 2025, ‘Unnatural’.

‘Unnatural’ is a mystery medical drama set at the fictional autopsy and forensic examination agency ‘U.D.I.’ (Unnatural Death Investigation). It follows forensic experts as they fight to uncover the truth concealed behind wrongful deaths. The series is based on the original drama of the same name, which aired on Japan’s TBS in 2018 and became a nationwide sensation.

The original, starring Satomi Ishihara, broke from the conventions of traditional medical dramas dominated by male-centered narratives. Its sharp portrayal of a female forensic expert earned the series a devoted following in both Japan and South Korea.

‘Im Yoon-ah’ will undergo a dramatic transformation as ‘Song Do-eun’, a forensic medical examiner at U.D.I. Despite her cold and analytical exterior, ‘Song Do-eun’ is deeply compassionate toward others. She is also fiercely determined to establish the truth behind each case through autopsies, regardless of external pressure or obstacles.

The production team further boosts confidence in the project. ‘Writer Min Ji-eun’, who established herself as a master of genre television through the ‘Partners for Justice’ series and ‘The First Responders’, is writing the script. She previously demonstrated her expertise in forensic research by winning the Dosang Forensic Culture Award in 2019. Joining her is ‘Director Park Yoo-young’, who has showcased outstanding directing in ‘The Kidnapping Day’ and ‘Ms. Incognito’, promising the arrival of another meticulously crafted genre drama.
