[New film] Park Hoon-jung's 'Sad Tropics' set to open on the 25th next month with brutal survival tale crowned by Silver Crow

Director 'Park Hoon-jung', who has built an unparalleled universe in Korean noir, is returning with a new film. Distributor Mindmark said on the 13th that 'Sad Tropics' will receive a formal theatrical release on the 25th next month.

A tyrant's death and blood-soaked suspicion fuel hard-boiled action in the jungle

After broadening the horizons of Korean-style action noir through the 'New World' (2013) and 'The Witch' (2018) series, Park returns with his ambitious new film three years after 'The Childe' (2023).

Set deep in a tropical rainforest, the film follows the brutal fate of children belonging to a killer organization called 'Sad Tropics'. The story unfolds with intensity as the children left behind after the sudden death of the group's absolute ruler, 'Sabu', fight to survive amid endless suspicion and betrayal directed at one another.

The cast is equally formidable. 'Kim Myung-min', known for his commanding acting skills, anchors the film as Sabu, the organization's absolute ruler. Alongside 'Park Hae-soo', 'Lee Shin-young' and 'Park Yoo-rim' are set to make striking transformations as ruthless killers raised under the law of the jungle.

Taiwanese acting talents representing the Chinese-speaking world, including 'Lin Bo-hong', 'Chen Yi-wen' and 'Wang Bo-jie', have also joined the cast in large numbers, further expanding the film's scale and global sense of tension.

The film's quality has already been proven on the international stage. Invited to the international competition at the 44th 'Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival' in April, the movie won the 'Silver Crow Award', the festival's Special Jury Prize, earning enthusiastic praise from genre-film fans around the world. Its strong storytelling and stylish action sequences drew high marks from international critics.
