tvN targets weekday viewers with a story about young people they can relate to
tvN has made a major change to its programming strategy, moving up the schedule for its new series ‘Happy Anding’. The network announced on the 21st that the show, originally scheduled as a Friday-Saturday drama, will now air on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The series, originally slated to premiere at 10:30 p.m. on the 6th, will instead make its debut at 10:50 p.m. on the 11th. The move is seen as a strategic choice by tvN to avoid the intense ratings competition among weekend dramas and focus on its target audience during late-night weekday hours.
‘Happy Anding’ is based on NTV’s Japanese drama ‘Life’s Punchline’, which aired in 2021 and earned praise as a well-crafted coming-of-age series. It will tell the moving story of three unknown comedians who, after charging toward their dreams, hit the harsh realities of life and set out to find their own paths forward.
The three leads set to carry the series are also drawing interest. They are Kang Hoon, who has risen to prominence on the strength of his solid acting; Cho Hyun-chul, known for his distinctive ability to inhabit a range of characters; and Kim Jung-jin, whose appeal feels fresh. Their nuanced performances are expected to bring to life a portrait of young people who hold on to hope amid failure and setbacks.
