With flashy choreography set aside, RIIZE fills the early hours with pure vocal emotion
SM Entertainment group RIIZE released its new single, “Insomnia,” at midnight on the 26th. Having captivated global K-pop fans with its distinctive performances, the group is venturing into acoustic pop for the first time since its debut, focusing solely on vocals instead of elaborate choreography.
“Insomnia” captures, through the six members’ wistful voices, longing for someone that grows more vivid late at night and a tangle of complex emotions. Delicate vocals layered over a lonely yet warm acoustic guitar melody are expected to stir listeners’ late-night emotions.
The members worked hard to strengthen their vocal abilities for the new song. SHOTARO said, “Through vocal training and lessons, we fine-tuned everything from our vocal tones and delivery to even the rap part,” adding, “I felt proud of taking on a new challenge as we worked to balance the members’ harmonies.” SUNGCHAN also emphasized, “Because the delicate texture of the vocals needs to shine over the acoustic rhythm, we put a great deal of care into the resonance of every lyric and adjusting our intonation.”
Group main vocalist SOHEE said, “I hope this becomes a song that showcases RIIZE’s vocals at their best and the signature track that immediately comes to mind when people think of our group’s voice,” expressing his hope of making a deep impression on the public as well as the fandom, BRIIZE. ANTON added, “I believe in the power of music. I hope this becomes a song people remember for a long time, one that naturally brings back memories of 2026 when they hear it in the future.”
The music video, which will be released alongside the song, was made in a drama-style format reminiscent of a coming-of-age film. All the members took on emotional acting themselves to heighten the song’s wistful mood. EUNSEOK reflected on filming, saying, “I was nervous because there were many scenes where we had to convey complex inner emotions with just our eyes, but I was able to grow through this different experience.”
With “Insomnia,” RIIZE is making a vocal statement after briefly setting aside its formidable weapon of performance, as it continues to explore new musical styles. The music industry is watching closely to see how deeply the group’s sincere voices will move the public.
