Cha Ye-ryeon’s Team Closes Comments on ‘Cha Janggeum Cha Ye-ryeon’ Amid School Bullying Allegations: ‘To Prevent the Spread of Rumors’

Cha Ye-ryeon has closed the comments section on her personal channel amid a wave of allegations.

The production team behind ‘Cha Janggeum Cha Ye-ryeon,’ a YouTube channel featuring actress Cha Ye-ryeon, announced on Nov. 1 that it would temporarily close the channel by its own decision. “We learned of the current situation while on a U.S. schedule with actress Cha Ye-ryeon,” the team said. It explained that “YouTube comments are managed at the production team’s discretion, without involvement from the cast.” The team added that “while the matter is being looked into, we are disabling some videos and comment sections to prevent the indiscriminate spread of rumors and personal attacks on family members,” and asked subscribers for their understanding.

The matter referenced by the production team concerns a post about school bullying that an online user published, prompting controversy after Cha Ye-ryeon was named as the alleged perpetrator. The post mentioned the author’s graduation year and middle school, leading online users to point to Cha Ye-ryeon among celebrities who met both criteria. Her agency said the allegations were baseless, but the controversy has continued to spread, reaching the social media accounts of Cha Ye-ryeon and her husband, Joo Sang-wook.

The latest video on ‘Cha Janggeum Cha Ye-ryeon’ was uploaded on Oct. 29, and the notice was posted on Nov. 1.
