Singer Woods (real name Jo Seung-yeon) returned to society on the 21st after completing his active duty in the Army. He served in the Army Military Academy Support Group (Military Band) after enlisting in January last year, and on the morning of his discharge, he returned to his fans after about a year and a half.
The news of Woods' discharge is drawing more attention thanks to his musical prowess that continued during his military service. The song "Drowning" from the album "OO-LI," released in April 2023 before his enlistment, became a sensation during his military service. He passionately performed this song in military uniform during the KBS 2TV special stage for Armed Forces Day last year, and the video sparked discussions in online communities and on YouTube, leading "Drowning" to start making its mark on music charts.
Ultimately, "Drowning" achieved the remarkable feat of reaching number one on the Melon "Top 100" chart about two years after its release, and it even won the number one trophy on SBS "Inkigayo" in May and June of this year. This is an unprecedented record for a music broadcast while still serving in the military. In response, Woods expressed through his agency, "I went through a lot of thoughts and growth during my military service. I express my deep gratitude to the fans who waited."
After his discharge, Woods is set to meet global fans through various activities. In August, he will take the stage at Japan's largest music festival, "Summer Sonic 2025," and in September, he will participate in major domestic and international festivals, including the "2025 Busan International Rock Festival." His agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced, "Woods will repay his fans with even more mature music and performances."
