2025 First Olympic eSports Games to be Held... 'Games are Now Real Sports'

A historic moment is approaching for those who love games. With the confirmation of the first Olympic eSports Games to be held in Saudi Arabia in 2025, games have finally been officially recognized as 'real sports'.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced last month at the 142nd meeting held in Paris that it unanimously approved the establishment of the Olympic eSports Games. This is expected to be the most significant milestone in the history of gaming.

Notably, the United States has considerable competitiveness as an eSports powerhouse. Currently, there are millions of gamers in the U.S., and it boasts many world-class players in major eSports titles such as 'League of Legends', 'Overwatch', and 'Counter-Strike'.

While it has not yet been determined which games will be official events in the Olympic eSports Games, industry experts have mentioned that 'Rocket League', 'Street Fighter', and 'League of Legends' are strong candidates.

Game streamer and former professional gamer Tyler 'Ninja' Blevins expressed on his social media, 'Finally, games are getting the recognition they deserve. This is a victory for all gamers.'

Even more interesting is that the Olympic eSports Games will be operated differently from traditional Olympics. Competitions will be held in a mixed format without gender distinction, and age restrictions will be applied more flexibly than in traditional sports.

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) stated, 'We have begun systematic preparations for selecting the U.S. eSports national team' and 'We will provide opportunities for outstanding gamers from across the country to showcase their skills on the Olympic stage.'

This Olympic eSports Games is expected to spark new interest in the Olympics among younger generations. In fact, there are 23.5 million gamers in Saudi Arabia alone, half of whom are female gamers.

As one parent said, 'I no longer have to worry about my son just playing games', it is anticipated that social perceptions of gaming will change significantly.
