Park Chan-wook's New Film 'NO OTHER CHOICE' Selected as Opening Film for the 30th Busan International Film Festival

Director Park Chan-wook's new film 〈NO OTHER CHOICE〉 has been selected as the opening film for the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The Busan International Film Festival Executive Committee announced on the 4th that Park Chan-wook's 〈NO OTHER CHOICE〉 has been chosen as the opening film for the 30th Busan International Film Festival, which will be held from September 17 to 26.

The film 〈NO OTHER CHOICE〉 depicts the story of an office worker, 'Mansu' (Lee Byung-hun), who felt satisfied with his life and thought he had 'achieved everything,' but after receiving sudden notice of his dismissal, he prepares for his own war of re-employment to protect his family and home.

In particular, in this work, actor Lee Byung-hun, who will host this year's film festival, plays the job seeker 'Mansu,' while actress Son Ye-jin, representing the Korean film industry, takes on the role of the wife 'Miri,' who strives to protect her family without wavering even in a crisis. This marks their first on-screen couple performance. The performances of talented actors such as Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, and Cha Seung-won are also highly anticipated.

Director Park Chan-wook mentioned at the 2019 Busan International Film Festival that this work is "the story I most want to tell," expressing his special affection for it.

The Busan International Film Festival explained the background of the opening film selection, stating, "It is an answer to what kind of work the more than 5,000 audience members attending the opening ceremony would most want to see." They also added, "It is the result of focusing on a work that can inject the most vivid vitality into the current Korean film industry."

The Executive Committee stated, "We valued the public interaction with the many audience members who will visit the site," and announced that they will send a warm message of respect and support for the current Korean cinema while signaling the start of the film festival.

The opening film 〈NO OTHER CHOICE〉 will be available at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, which will be held from the 17th to the 26th of next month.
