Is there a movie that fits better with ‘insane speed’? We are talking about the box office hit 〈Sonic the Hedgehog〉, which has overcome the trailer stigma of ‘Ugly Sonic’ with impressive quality and has returned as the third installment of the series. This time, the most popular character from the original, ‘Shadow’, joins the fray, receiving much anticipation and achieving the highest box office results in the series, brightening the franchise's future.
〈Sonic the Hedgehog 3〉 is based on Sega's popular game of the same name, depicting Team Sonic's struggle to stop Shadow, who is burning with revenge and trying to destroy the world. The series has delivered significant fun with explosive speed and dazzling action, continuing the box office success myth of game adaptations alongside 〈Super Mario Brothers〉. Idris Elba (Knuckles) and Keanu Reeves (Shadow) lend their voices, generating much buzz. Additionally, Jim Carrey, who has delivered legendary comedic performances in 〈The Mask〉 and 〈Dumb and Dumber〉, returns as the villain Dr. Eggman, showcasing his shining presence amidst a flood of CG characters. Notably, this installment continues the limitless speed duel between Sonic and Shadow in space, beyond Earth, which will blow away the stress of a hot summer in an instant. Don’t miss the post-credits scene hinting at a sequel.

The film 〈FAQ〉 warmly depicts the world through the eyes of children and will be released on Watcha on August 8. The movie portrays the adventures of 11-year-old Dongchun and a talking makgeolli. Although only 11, Dongchun has a busier schedule than adults due to a relentless academy schedule. One day, he discovers that a secret is hidden in the bubbles of the makgeolli, leading him to an unexpected ‘Dongchun’s adventure’. Directed by Kim Da-min, who wrote the script for 〈Murderer’s Dilemma〉, this is his first feature film, combining family drama and childlike fantasy, prompting much thought amidst warm laughter. It is a fitting content for Watcha, which has consistently introduced well-made Korean independent films.
Watcha, the first OTT service platform in Korea, has released many hidden works across various genres, including Korean independent films, Japanese dramas, short films, and animations. It has been loved by OTT subscribers as a go-to place for this genre. Despite the unique charm of Watcha, it has struggled with management difficulties, falling behind in competition with various OTTs. Recently, it entered corporate rehabilitation procedures, causing much regret. Although the future is uncertain, we hope it overcomes the current crisis for the subscribers who still love Watcha. May the charm of discovering hidden gems continue for Watcha.

The legendary SF monster film series 〈Alien〉 is revived as a drama. The Disney+ original series 〈Alien: Earth〉 depicts the story of the USCSS Maginot spaceship crashing on Earth and five alien life forms collected from the depths of space emerging from the spaceship. While the 〈Alien〉 series has previously depicted survival struggles in the confined space of a spaceship, this work showcases a larger scale and worldview as aliens come to Earth.
It is also noteworthy that this is the first drama in the 〈Alien〉 series. While retaining the characteristics of the existing universe, it adds fun with a broader story unique to the drama. Directed by Noah Hawley, who won an Emmy for the drama 〈Fargo〉, the production team breathes life into the work. Amidst the fear brought by alien life forms, it explores human desires and moral dilemmas, unfolding thrilling stories in each episode. The ‘post-Ripley’ of this work is played by Wendy, portrayed by Sydney Chandler. As the first being to have a real human consciousness injected into a synthetic human body, she engages in powerful action against aliens with an indestructible body while deeply contemplating the philosophical implications of human existence. Ridley Scott, the creator of 〈Alien〉, directly produces and writes 〈Alien: Earth〉, ensuring that the fundamental strength of the series is not lost, and it will be released on Disney+ on August 13.
