Popular YouTuber 'Tokyo Gyu-chan', who has 180,000 subscribers, has come under fire for creating content while hiding the fact that he is living in Japan. As the controversy intensified, Tokyo Gyu-chan posted an apology video to clarify the situation.
Tokyo Gyu-chan has been loved for content introducing Japanese culture and life. However, recently, suspicions arose in online communities that despite having returned to Korea 1 year and 6 months ago, he continues to create videos as if he still resides in Japan.
In response, Tokyo Gyu-chan uploaded an apology video titled 'I sincerely apologize' on his YouTube channel on the 10th. In the video, he admitted to creating content about life in Japan while hiding the fact of his return to Korea and expressed his apologies to his subscribers.
Tokyo Gyu-chan explained, "I lived in Japan for 10 years, but I applied for a visa for a new challenge and was rejected. At that time, I was mentally struggling and could not inform anyone about my return." He also added, "I thought Japan was my identity, so I tried to hide it thoroughly even after coming to Korea."
He revealed that he filmed videos while traveling back and forth to Japan for tourism purposes to maintain the concept of being a YouTuber residing in Japan. He expressed regret, saying, "Since I have been filming from the perspective of someone who always lives in Japan, the sense of betrayal from the viewers must be significant."
In particular, after criticism arose regarding his light attitude and evasive comments in the first apology video he posted, Tokyo Gyu-chan apologized again, stating, "It was an unjustifiable wrong judgment on my part."
Tokyo Gyu-chan stated, "In the future, I will share my situation more transparently. I will strive to regain the trust I have lost," expressing his intention to continue his YouTuber activities.
