The Best Problematic Work of Korean Independent Film, 'Esper's Light' Teaser Poster Released!

Director Jeong Jae-hoon, who has won awards at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Seoul Independent Film Festival, and Muju Mountain Film Festival, has confirmed the release of the problematic work 〈Esper's Light〉 in November and has released the teaser poster. Based on a story co-created by teenagers in an online community where anyone can become anything and create any story, it is one of the best problematic works of Korean independent film set to be released in 2025.

〈Esper's Light〉 is a work based on a story created by a group of about ten teenagers on Twitter (now X) using a TRPG-style game called 'self-character community'. The director, along with the production team and actors, creates a story through various choices in a fictional fantasy world, showcasing a completely new attempt to implement what happens on the display as images in the film. 〈Esper's Light〉 has received overwhelming critical acclaim, winning the Best Feature Award at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Special Mention in the Long Feature Competition at the Seoul Independent Film Festival, the Creative Award at the Muju Mountain Film Festival, and the Film Critics Award, but it is also known for having a particularly polarized audience reception.

Along with the announcement of the confirmed release, the teaser poster for 〈Esper's Light〉 features a fantastic image of light pouring from the 'madman' appearing early in the work, capturing attention. This image, seemingly connected to the title of the film, further emphasizes the mysterious aspects surrounding the work, amplifying expectations of what kind of world the story created by teenagers will unfold to the audience, combined with director Jeong Jae-hoon's fantastic direction.
