The Gwangbokhoe and the General Hong Beom-do Memorial Association are officially launching a movement to revise the National Military Organization Act to establish the authenticity and identity of the national military, coinciding with the documentary film 〈Independence Army: The Unfinished War〉 produced as part of the 80th anniversary of liberation.
A representative from the memorial association emphasized, “The ultimate goal of this film production is not just a simple historical re-examination, but to establish our national military as a true ‘military of the people’. For this, national consensus and participation regarding the historical authenticity and identity of the national military is essential.”
Furthermore, “The documentary 〈Independence Army: The Unfinished War〉 reflects on the roots of the Republic of Korea's national military, which continues from the Independence Army and the Gwangbok Army, reminding us that the national military must exist within the trust of the people,” and added, “So far, about 60,000 people have watched it in theaters, and due to repeated requests from educational settings, we are producing an edited version for community screenings, which will allow many more citizens to share in its significance as community screenings expand.”
Additionally, the Gwangbokhoe and the General Hong Beom-do Memorial Association stated, “The end of the film is not the screening, but the practice that leads to the revision of the National Military Organization Act,” and revealed plans for various independence movement-related organizations to form a joint promotion organization to systematically continue the revision movement.
The General Hong Beom-do Memorial Association plans to establish the historical lineage of the national military as ‘Independence Army–Gwangbok Army–National Military’ and to carry out various educational and promotional activities aimed at establishing the value of a military that is with the people.
