The Film Adaptation of Park Ji-ri's Novel 'Manhole' Set to Release in November!

The film adaptation of the novel by Park Ji-ri, titled 〈Manhole〉, is set to release in November. The movie 〈Manhole〉 is a deep thriller drama where high school student 'Seon-oh', living with buried wounds, faces unexpected events and falls into a dilemma.

The film 〈Manhole〉 is based on the bestseller 『Manhole』 by Park Ji-ri, who has won the Seasonal Literature Award, the Red Award in the Perspective category, and the Korean Publishing Culture Award. It is the first film adaptation that vividly captures the literary depth of the original work, delicately portraying the inner world of the characters on screen.

Director Han Ji-soo reinterprets the psychological density of the original work with a tense narrative and a sensuous mise-en-scène. The sophisticated music by music director Lee Jun-oh (Casker) further enhances the lyrical quality and tension of the film. The moment the deeply buried wounds are revealed, the subtle psychological changes and complex conflicts of the characters intersect, drawing the audience deep into that abyss.

〈Manhole〉 is the directorial debut feature film of Han Ji-soo, who has been recognized for her directing skills through co-writing the upcoming Netflix release 〈Great Flood〉 scheduled for the second half of 2025, the nominee for the Blue Dragon Film Awards 〈The Period〉 (2019), and the winner of the Best Short Film at the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival 〈You Should Know That〉 (2015), as well as 〈Camping〉 (2019). The lead role is played by newcomer Kim Jun-ho, who delicately expresses the inner turmoil of unstable youth with realistic and sincere acting. Additionally, actress Kwon So-hyun adds vitality to the film with her solid acting skills, while actress Min-seo, who possesses both acting and musical talents, breathes life into the film. With actress Park Mi-hyun solidifying the center of the film, the captivating performances of the actors and the direction of Han Ji-soo have prepared to meet the audience by newly expanding the delicate emotional lines of the original work into cinematic language.
