Travel Creator Wonji Deletes Video and Issues Official Apology Over '6-Pyeong Basement Office' Controversy

Popular travel creator Wonji, who has about 1 million subscribers, faced controversy over poor office conditions, deleted the related video, and issued an official apology.

On the 20th, Wonji posted a video titled 'Looking for a 6-Pyeong Office' on her YouTube channel 'Wonji's Day'. The video showed three employees working in an office of about 6 pyeong ($19.8\text{㎡}$) located on the basement 2nd floor without windows.

"Not fitting for a 1 million YouTuber" Criticism Grows

Immediately after the video was released, criticism surged in online communities. Netizens reacted with comments like, "It's too poor for a 1 million YouTuber," "An office on the basement 2nd floor without windows?" and "Three people in 6 pyeong is like a prison level."

In particular, since Wonji often shows herself using business class on airplanes and buying luxury goods, the sight of filling the office with second-hand furniture and the poor working conditions raised concerns about a lack of consideration for her employees.

"Insufficient communication of structure through the video"... Apology Posted

As the controversy spread, Wonji posted a lengthy apology on the same day, explaining, "It seems that the ventilation system or structure of the entire building was not sufficiently conveyed through the video, which may have led to a somewhat different perception of the actual environment. I thought there could be misunderstandings or inconveniences for those using the same building, so I decided to make the video private."

Wonji explained that the building where the office space is located is designed to circulate air through the ventilation system of the entire building, and she believed that having no windows would not be a major issue, which is why she signed the contract.

She stated, "Since this is my first office, I think there are many immature and lacking parts," and promised, "I will actively accept the opinions left and work hard to show that I can develop in a better direction in the future."

Meanwhile, Wonji gained public recognition by appearing on the ENA entertainment show 'Earth Monopoly World Travel', and she announced her marriage earlier this January.
