〈A Better Tomorrow 2〉 has garnered attention with the release of a new version.
In 1987, 〈A Better Tomorrow 2〉 was a sequel to the 1986 〈A Better Tomorrow〉, featuring the return of the original protagonists, Chow Yun-fat, Leslie Cheung, and Ti Lung, continuing the series. The success of the previous film allowed for a larger scale and a more intricate narrative, drawing global attention to the Hong Kong film industry.
Having ascended to the ranks of classics, 〈A Better Tomorrow 2〉 has recently unveiled a new version. The 〈A Better Tomorrow〉 trilogy set released by 'Shout! Factory' includes the 〈A Better Tomorrow 2〉 workprint version. This version reportedly includes 35 minutes of additional footage, enhancing the characters' stories and action scenes.
Remarkably, this workprint version was so old that even director John Woo was unaware of its whereabouts, and it was discovered while searching for materials to restore 〈A Better Tomorrow 2〉. While the restored version may not boast superior quality compared to the existing theatrical version, the fact that it is a completely new version has generated significant buzz among fans.
