The Netflix series 〈Can This Love Be Translated?〉 has captured the hearts of global rom-com fans immediately after its release on January 16. This work, which opens the new year of 2026, is receiving praise for its 'language-transcending' romance between multilingual interpreter Joo Ho-jin (Kim Seon-ho) and top star Cha Mu-hee (Go Yoon-jung). The 'rom-com masters' Hong Sisters (Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran), who penned the script, shared the heartfelt story behind the work through a written Q&A.

"A Romance That Begins from a Special Dependency Relationship of an Interpreter"

Writer Hong Sisters revealed that the starting point of the work was the 'intense dependency relationship' between the interpreter and the client, where one must rely solely on the other when words fail to connect. They continued, "The language of love varies as much as there are people, making it difficult to convey true feelings. I wanted to warmly depict the process where a perfect interpreter misunderstands and struggles in front of their own love."

Regarding the glamorous locations spanning Japan, Canada, and Italy, they emphasized, "I expected that the setting of unfamiliar travel destinations would add a special touch to the characters' emotions," adding, "Each country is not just a backdrop but another character that accompanies the characters' journey."

"Kim Seon-ho was perfect, and Go Yoon-jung was a certainty"

They did not hold back in praising the lead actors. Writer Hong Sisters expressed happiness that Kim Seon-ho perfectly portrayed everything from his neatness to his shaken demeanor due to love, beyond their imagination. Regarding Go Yoon-jung, who they met again after 〈Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow〉, they stated, "I was confident that her unique bright energy would match well with Mu-hee. She perfectly executed the role of 'Dora-mi,' almost performing a dual role in the drama," revealing deep trust.

The most impressive scene chosen by the writer is the ending of episode 9. "The line 'Please love me, Joo Ho-jin. Just as I love you, goodbye,' which connects to an Italian opera phrase, is beautiful yet thrilling and sad," they urged viewers to look forward to it.
