The domestic film market in 2025 is analyzed as a year where the trend of 'experiential consumption' centered around special theaters and repeat viewings became prominent.

According to CGV's data strategy team on the 5th, more than 1 in 5 customers visiting CGV experienced special theaters, indicating that special theaters have established themselves as a 'standard experience' rather than just an option. An analysis of the characteristics of special theater users showed that 4DX has a high proportion of female audiences in their teens and twenties, with a tendency for group viewings of three people. SCREENX and ULTRA 4DX also showed a high proportion of group viewings among audiences in their twenties and thirties. This indicates that the experience of watching in special theaters is expanding beyond individual viewings to 'shared experience consumption' centered around friends, partners, family, and fandoms.

The trend of repeat viewings is also notable. Last year, the proportion of repeat viewing tickets for all released films was 6.2%, while the proportion for the Top 10 films exceeded the average at 7.5%. Among these, films that received great love from audiences, such as 'Demon Slayer: Mugen Train', 'F1® The Movie', and 'Chainsaw Man: The Movie', had repeat viewing proportions exceeding 10%, making them representative cases where re-watching drove box office success. These films showed that the proportion of special theater experiences among repeat viewings was over 60%, proving that the special theater experience is a key factor leading to 'movies people want to see again'. This suggests that audiences are increasingly reinterpreting and re-consuming content through differentiated experiences by format.

Additionally, an analysis of the age demographics of CGV visitors revealed an increase in customers in their teens and those over 50, confirming that both age groups have increased compared to 2019. In particular, the increase in teenage audiences is analyzed to be influenced by fandom-type content such as animation and alternative content like ICECON, showing that theaters are expanding beyond just film viewing to become 'fan experience spaces'.

CJ CGV's Moon Byeong-il, head of the data strategy team, stated, “Our analysis of the 2025 film market confirmed that the experiences in special theaters and repeat viewings are key factors driving box office success,” and added, “CGV plans to continuously observe changing audience consumption patterns through viewing data analysis and enhance market understanding.”
